NYS: Sporting Hope for Team Nasarawa Despite Losses In Boxing, Tennis and Karate.

Team Nasarawa has been knocked out from the 44kg Boxing category in the ongoing 8th National Youth Games in Asaba Delta State, on Day 5.

Roqeeb Ojakojo from Ogun State dominated all three rounds, to get into the good books of the five Judges, winning 5-0.

12 year old Musa Usman who only got involved in boxing for only three weeks and never fought on the Canvas was sadden by the defeat, however he promised to train hard. ” It was a lovely bout, my opponent pushed me hard , am happy with the training I got from Coach Nnamdi Osuji , when I get back to Lafia, I will train hard”

With Musa Usman been knockout from the 44kg category, Yusuf Abduallhi 42kg becomes the only “medal hopeful’ of Team Nasarawa in Boxing, when he steps on the Canvas tomorrow (Saturday 14, September,2024).

On his part Coach Nnamdi Osuji commended Musa Usman, saying his going to get better. “He did well for a first timer who had never trained in a Boxing ring and engaging in the sport for three weeks, however, have informed him not to miss training again” he added.

Other Day 5 results saw team Nasarawa been knocked out in Tennis Singles second round having been drawn bye in round one with Ismaila Shaibu falling to Afolabi Samson (Delta) 4-0, 5-3 and
Muhammed Abduallhi losing to Oguojiofor Onyekachi 4-0, 4-0 (Oyo).

Karate:
Josephine Agbo won her first match in the 50kg by 6-0 against her Anambra counterpart and lost to her Abuja opponent, meanwhile other athletes were knockout in round one for both Boys and Girls .

Girl’s Volleyball:
Team Oyo won by 2 sets (25-8, 25-10), however team Nasarawa got the needed victory against Neighbors Benue in the second game, winning by two sets 2-1(25-23, 38-36, 15-11) and in the process advancing to the round of 16.

Saturday, 14 September will see Team Nasarawa return to action in Golf, Volleyball Male and Female, Boxing, table Tennis, Hockey and Tennis.
