More States in Northern Nigeria have been challenged to pick up cycling as a sports just like Nasarawa, Pleatue and Adamawa.
Alh. Mohammed Bashir, technical director Cycling Federation of Nigeria made this known while interacting with Options Radio Correspondent in Asaba Delta state on Monday, where the 8th National Youth Games is taking Place. “Poor, Cycling is not happening in the North, apart from Nasarawa, Plateau and Adamawa that are here in Asaba and even those states are lacking the equipment like Bicycle and you know cycling belongs to the North, when I was a Cyclists when you talk about Cycling , Plateau, Bauchi then when you come to the Western side , Lagos and Ogun, and you see only three States from the North and the problem is lack of Sponsor “
In terms of uplifting Cycling Sports in Northern Nigeria Alh. Bashir called on Zonal representatives to continue organizing Zonal Championship and for Sponsors to come on board. ” We need sponsors to come on board, we also have zonal representative to keep coming up with event. In the North Central we have events and the Nasarawa Representative can testify.”

On the Young Cyclist performance so far at the NYG, Mohammed Bashir who also doubles as Secretary General Confederation African Cycling and Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) BMX racing Commission said three Cyclist will the heading to Kenya under the Junior category, “Right here I have discovered three Athletes that I intend to send them to Kenya for a developmental programme under the UCI solidarity Programme, one is from Pleatue and two females from Delta and Kwara state, their state governments is ready to support them with flight tickets, while Confederation of African Cycling while be responsible for the feeding and accommodation of the athletes in Kenya.”
According to Mr Bashir, the Athletes will be groomed to represent Africa in next year’s world Championship taking place in Africa for the First time in Rawanda.
Team Nasarawa Cycling Head coach, Mohammed Babajada said his impressed with the performance of his cyclist, however he called on the state government to provide high grade Bicycle for efficient performance.
