Nasarawa State Government To Recover 50,000 Degraded Hecters of Land Before 2028— ACReSAL Coordinator

Nasarawa State Government has reiterated it’s resolve to restore 50,000 hecters of degraded Lands before 2028.

Dr Napoleon Gyobe, coordinator, Nasarawa state Agro-climatic Resilience in semi-arid Landscape (ACReSAL), on Friday (19 July, 2024) made this known during the officially handover of Kurim Tagwaye Nursery Site, Akwanga Nasarawa State.

According to him, ACReSAL will aid the state in recovering 5,000 hecters of land before 2024 ends and in turn 50,000 before 2028, moreso, the Six Nursery sites across the state would be used to achieve that and it will also serve as an educational ground for studies.

He further appreciated Gov. Abduallhi Sule for keying into the ACReSAL World Bank project aimed at recovering degraded Lands in the state.

The Kurim Tagwaye Nursery Site would house 5,000 seedings in the Greenhouse, 16,000 seedings within the building and it would serve as rehabilitation to forest reserves within the Nasarawa North Zone.

On his part, Mallam Garba Mohammed Permanent Secretary, Environment and Natural Resources Nasarawa state who was represented the Commissioner Dr Kwanta Yakubu at the Nursery handover site, commended the ACReSAL and the contractor for a job Weldon, thereby stressing that the Nursery Site would help in capacity building of the ministry Staff, Students and help the state recover degraded Lands.

Dr Kwanta further called on the host community to protect the site.

On his part, Engr. Matthew O. Of Yura Ally International Ltd, the contractor who handled Nursery Site revealed that the project was awarded ending of 2023, however work kicked started in February 2024, saying the structure is made up of Greenhouse, Solar Powered Borehole, Office for Staff and Store for equipments.
