NASHIA Tasks Health Workers In Nasarawa North On Proper Referrals To Save Lives.

Health workers in Nasarawa North (Wamba, Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon LGA’s of Nasarawa State) have been trained on timely referral of patients to save lives and further prevent the worsening health conditions.
The call was made Thursday, in Akwanga by Pharm. Kaki Maikudi, the Director of Health Services Standard of Health Quality Control, Nasarawa state Health Insurance Agency (NASHIA), in a one day training for 90 Health care workers from each health facilities in the Councils.
The NASHIA director said the programme was done in partnership with the Local Health System Sustainability Project to train health workers on “Referrals and Claims Processing” to avoid delay in quick medical attention by highly equipped facilities and personnel’s
” We discovered all these while, some cases that are supposed to be sent to a professional, the primary health care facilities still hold on to it, so therefore we are here to train them whatever is above or beyond the facility should be referred to the appropriate places, and even secondary facility are not suppose to keep the entire cases, cases that are of tertiary or professionals or specialist, they can give a further referral to tertiary institution. “he said

Pharm. Kaki further added that the training brought a different technic to empower the health workers who fall in Primary Facilities (Primary Health Centers) and Secondary Facilities (Those facilities which can carryout some medical operations) .
On their parts, Tabitha Gabi PHC Ginda B, Nelson Nwachuku ERCC Hospital Alushi and Dr Onwusobalu Somto, General hospital Wamba all appreciated the organizers for the timing of the programme, which they believe would in turn save lives which would have been lost due to ignorance.
